This Saturday, May 4, 2002, marks the first of eight dates of Bracket Racing scheduled at Route 66 Raceway. With preliminary weather predictions of a partly cloudy forecast with a high of 72, racers are shaking off their winter blues and gearing up for an excellent season at the track.

The exciting Auto Meter E. T. Bracket Series presented by Phil's Automotive Inc. puts racers not only against each other, but also against the clock.

Racers earn points for each round, based on their individual runs. In addition, racers compete for a cash purse and points leading to year-end awards.

The four Bracket Classes are:
-Super Pro (7.00-11.99 E.T.)
-Pro (9.50-13.99 E.T.)
-Sportsman (13.00-19.99 E.T.)
-Pro Bike (7.50- 15.99 E.T.)
-High School (12.00-and slower)

Based on the performance of their race cars, drivers set a dial-in time in seconds. The object is to make a time run as close to the their dial-in time without going under it. For example, if the dial-in is 10.10 seconds, a run of 10.09 is too quick and the driver loses the run.

The racers' critical task during the time runs is to try to figure out the best index for the cars' performance. Many things affect performance, such as track conditions and weather. It takes a great deal of skill, as well as a complete understanding of the race car to score well in bracket racing.

Later in the year, the top ten drivers will earn the privilege of competing on behalf of Route 66 Raceway at the bracket finals in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Gate admission is $10.00 each for spectators and participants.

Run Card prices are as follows (does not include gate admission):

Pro ET: $40.00
Pro Bike: $30.00
