Sixty-four of NHRA's top Lucas Oil Sportsman racers will battle for big bucks and bragging rights at the 18th annual $100,000 NHRA Jeg's Allstars event. Held in conjunction with the Craftsman 75th Anniversary NHRA Nationals at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, the special event is the culmination of a year-long points battle between thousands of NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competitors and features the top eight drivers in Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street. The eight-car Allstars fields comprise the top points earners from each of NHRA's seven geographic divisions. Drivers earn Allstars points by competing at Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events held within their home division. Defending Allstars champions in each category are automatically placed in the field as blockers. If the defending champion earns enough points to qualify for the event the following year, the runner-up from the previous year is placed in the Allstars field as a blocker. If both finalists qualify, the field is limited to seven competitors. Of the event's $100,000 purse, $7,000 will be awarded to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to Comp and Super Stock winners, and $4,500 to Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street victors. The runner-up in each category will receive $2,000. As an added bonus, each Allstars competitor will receive a portion of the $20,000 tow fund based on their mileage traveled to the event. An additional $20,000 is awarded to the drivers in the division that accumulates the most points. Defending team champion Division 2 has won five team titles, including the last two. Host Division 3 also has won five team titles, Divisions 1 and 4 each have three wins, and Division 6 has one. Teams earn 100 points for each round-win. Defending champs who are competing as blockers cannot earn points for their team, but they may share in any team rewards. Allstars festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with a photo session and driver introductions. The opening round of eliminations is scheduled for 11 a.m., semifinals at 1:45 p.m., and finals at 3 p.m.
