Jeg Coughlin Jr faced off against newcomer Dave Connolly in the opening round. Convey had lane choice and took the preferred left lane. Jeg launched from the starting line first (.024 to .034) and never looked back. The JEG'S Mail Order Chevy Cavalier got to every incremental point on the track first. He posted a 6.780 at 202.09 mph and won by .0203 seconds. The run was the second quickest run of the round and the quickest run in the right lane. "We did a good job reading the track in the opening round," said Jeg. In the second round Jeg had lane choice over fellow Ohio driver Ron Krisher. After back-to-back oil downs in the left lane during round two of Funny Car the team decided go back to the right lane. Once again, the JEG'S Mail Order Chevy Cavalier left the starting line first (.024 to .046) and never looked back. Jeg ran a 6.825 at 201.52 mph and took the win light by .0297 seconds at the stripe. "We hit the bump in the right lane at the transition during the second round and it got the car moving around," said Jeg. "The car wanted to favor the left side of the groove all the way down the track." In the semifinal round Jeg faced off against Greg Anderson. Anderson was unable to start his car and pull into the water box due to mechanical problems. Jeg posted a 6.814 at 201.82 mph in the right lane for the win. "We made a better run in the right lane this time," explained Jeg. "The bump was not as big a factor as it was in the second round." The final round put Jeg Coughlin and Kurt Johnson head-to-head. Jeg grabbed the starting line advantage with a .009 reaction time compared to the .024 of KJ. The JEG'S machine made a move toward the center line just after the 60-foot clock. Jeg drover the car back to the center of the groove by half track, but it was not enough. The margin of victory was .0256 seconds for Johnson. Jeg posted a run of 6.833 at 201.91 mph. "I had to short shift a couple of gears to get the car back to the center of the groove," said Jeg. "We have built some good momentum over the past three races that we are excited about carrying it to the next race at our home track. We will pick up the pieces and get ready for Columbus." This was the second final round appearance for Jeg Coughlin Jr this year and the 44th of his professional career. He remains in the No. 4 position in the NHRA POWERade championship.
