Troy Coughlin showed the strength and depth of the two-car Jeg's Mail Order Pro Stock team. The team had a new engine between the frame rails and made it happen under added pressure. The first time down the track Troy rattled off a run of 6.802 at 203.06 mph. The run was good enough to end the first qualifying session sitting in the No. 12 position. With additional data on the engine and a strong desire to improve Troy entered the final qualifying sessions of the shortened qualifying sessions for the Car Quest NHRA Nationals. By the time Troy pulled into the water box he was on the outside looking in. The Pro Stock veteran never missed a beat. He remained focus with the men in yellow and black behind him and posted an impressive 6.775 at 203.71 mph under pressure. The result was a No. 7 qualifying position for race day. "We knew what we had to do as a team and we got it done," said Troy. "We are looking forward to having both Jeg's Mail Order Chevy Cavaliers' in the field for race day. It would have been nice if we were on opposite sides of the ladder, but that racing." Troy Coughlin will face off against Kurt Johnson in the opening round. Troy could do his younger brother Jeg a favor by knocking out Kurt, who Jeg trails for the No. 2 position in the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock championship. "We are looking forward to our first round match up with Kurt," commented Troy. "it might open up a window of opportunity for both Jeg and I to gain valuable points at this late point in the season."
