SCHUMACHER SECOND IN TOP FUEL SAVOIE SEVENTH, BROWN NINTH IN PRO STOCK BIKES JOLIET, Ill., - Piloting his U.S. Army Top Fuel dragster, Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher swiped the second qualifying position after the first day of action here for the NHRA Route 66 Nationals at Route 66 Raceway. In Pro Stock Bikes, U.S. Army riders, Angelle Savoie and Antron Brown, settled for seventh and ninth, respectively, after two of four qualifying sessions. Top Fuel With rain hitting Route 66 Raceway just prior to the evening qualifying session, Schumacher got but one run in for the day and he made it count. The Chicago native laid down a 4.563-second pass at 326.71 mph to slide into the number two spot behind the provisional pole sitter, David Grubnic. "It was a nice, problem-free run for us," said Schumacher. "Unfortunately, we didn't get the second run in. It got a lot cooler and I think many of the Top Fuel cars, including us, would have put on a good show. We'll just point towards tomorrow to get prepared for Sunday's eliminations." Schumacher came into the eighth race of the season leading the Top Fuel point standings. Pro Stock Bikes Savoie, after claiming her first victory of the season last weekend, recorded a 7.278-second pass at 180.36 mph to grab a spot in the upper half of the field. "We actually thought we had more in the bike today, but I guess the high humidity was a factor," said the three-time Pro Stock Bike world champion. "We'll just try to improve tomorrow." Brown's 7.299-second trip at 178.80 mph left him just outside the top eight in the Pro Stock Bike order. "I guess my bike responded like Angelle's to the weather," said the New Jersey native. "Hopefully, we can move up on Saturday." Brown and Savoie entered the NHRA Route 66 Nationals fifth and sixth, respectively, in the Pro Stock Bike standings.
