JOLIET, Ill.-Two-time defending NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon posted his quickest elapsed time of the weekend Sunday, but was defeated in the opening round of Top Fuel eliminations at Route 66 Raceway. The Miller Lite team was hampered by only getting two shots at the Route 66 Raceway quarter mile during qualifying as two qualifying sessions were canceled due to poor weather. Dixon, who qualified his 'Vote Miller for President of Beers' dragster in the No. 13 position, powered his Dick LaHaie-tuned rail to a performance of 4.563 seconds at 325.85 mph, Dixon's quickest and fastest run of the weekend. However, first run opponent Doug Kalitta outran the Miller-backed rail as Kalitta drove his dragster to a run or 4.487 at 331.28 to earn the round win. "Every week we work on our car and try to make it one of the top cars out here and we still obviously have some work to do," Dixon said. "The two qualifying runs that got rained out hurt us because each run we made we went quicker. Had we got those sessions in, we might have been in the top four or five cars and had an easier draw in the first round."
