NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Funny Car driver and team owner, Terry Haddock has announced that the United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC) has signed on as an associate sponsor with the Barrett Enterprises Camaro. In conjunction, the Chicago and Northeast Illinois District Council of Carpenters has signed as a major associate sponsor for the two Chicago events, the NHRA Route 66 Nationals, May 20-23 2004 and the Carquest Auto Parts Nationals, September 30-October 3, 2004. The 34-year-old Funny Car pilot, Haddock has a distinguished 15-year racing career. At age 19 he began racing stock cars, stepping up to drag racing five years later. In 1998, Haddock earned his Funny Car competition license becoming a member of the elite professional ranks in the NHRA. ?We are so proud to have the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and the Chicago and Northeast Illinois District Council of Carpenters join our Barrett Enterprises team,? said Haddock. ?This is the only country where you can watch Funny Cars on TV as a kid and realize that when you have a dream, are true to it and work hard at it, you can achieve it. With the Union?s commitment and support along with what the Barrett?s have done for me plus with my other sponsors, Speed Logistics, Wheel Vintiques, newcomers, Werner Ladder and Industrial Ladder, Fram, Lucas Oil, Heavy Metal Creations and Urie and Blanton; this year has developed into the best time of my life and I know that it can only get better.? ?Our association with Terry Haddock is a perfect fit,? said Earl J. Oliver, President of the Chicago and Northeast Illinois District Council of Carpenters. ?Terry is an ambitious young man with a dream and he is willing to work hard to reach his goals. Things weren?t handed to him on a silver platter. He is an everyday guy that has to make things happen for him. Terry?s philosophy and work ethics fit in with the Union?s mission. As a Union member our carpenters can make their dreams come true and can have a good lifestyle for their families with great benefits. But just like Terry, it takes hard work and dedication. NHRA Drag Racing is a fast-paced, exciting sport that is rapidly growing, again just like the UBC, which is also rapidly growing. And as we travel with Terry and the Barrett Enterprises team, we want to make carpenters around the country aware of the advantages and benefits of joining their local Carpenter?s Union. While at the same time we can all have fun making dreams come true.? The United Brotherhood of Carpenters began in 1881, when 36 carpenters from 11 cities formed a national union with a constitution, a structure and two thousand members. A powerful political and economic force arose from humble beginnings, setting the standards for wages, benefits, working conditions and quality workmanship on every Union project in the United States. The UBC has more than 520,000 highly skilled men and women throughout the building-trades industries, and represents and offers training to North America?s carpenters, cabinetmakers, millwrights, pile drivers, lathers, framers, floor layers, roofers, drywallers, siders, insulators and workers in forest products and related industries. In the Chicagoland region, the 36,000 member Chicago and Northeast Illinois District Council of Carpenters is the largest Union labor organization throughout the city and surrounding suburbs, playing a major role in commercial as well residential development. The Chicago and Northeast Illinois District Council of Carpenters has the largest state of the art training center in the area, where men and women are trained in a four-year apprenticeship program that provides comprehensive education in all aspects of carpentry. Union contractors like Barrett Enterprises, Inc. provide the on-site training and employment opportunities for its membership. ?As we begin this relationship,? said Haddock, ?we are looking forward to spreading the Union?s message everywhere we stop; and to meeting the district councils and having Union Carpenters around the country cheer us on.? The cheering will begin this weekend, May 20-23 2004 at the NHRA Route 66 Nationals, in Joliet, Ill.
