The newly resurfaced Route 66 Raceway proved that once again, history was to be made in Joliet this weekend at the NHRA Route 66 Nationals. The ultra-smooth surface, waited patiently for Mother Nature to turn off the rain, as the crowds begged for nitro.

Shortly after the weather cleared, the NHRA National records began to drop and a new chapter in the book of drag racing was written.

TOP FUEL NATIONAL SPEED RECORD:
Brandon Bernstein established the Top Fuel national record for speed at 333.41 mph by running within the required 1 percent mandated by NHRA. Bernstein needed to record a pass at 330.08 mph or greater to set the record, which he did in his semifinal victory over Tony Schumacher and the U.S. Army dragster when he hit 332.26. Bernstein also established a career-best E.T. (4.462) on the record-setting run.

Doug Kalitta etched his name in the books with an E.T. of 4.420 making the quickest Top Fuel Pass in NHRA History and clinched the win against Bernstein.

FUNNY CAR NATIONAL E.T. RECORD:
Whit Bazemore steered his Matco Tools Dodge Stratus R/T down the drag strip in 4.713 seconds at 333.25 mph, establishing a national record for time and recording the fastest Funny Car pass in NHRA history. Bazemore collected an additional 20 POWERade championship points for the E.T. record, which was backed up within the required 1 percent by his qualifying pass of 4.731.

PRO STOCK BIKE TRACK RECORD:
Andrew Hines rode the Screamin? Eagle Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson down the drag strip in a track record time of 7.093 seconds, erasing the previous record of 7.103 set by Angelle Savoie in June 2001.
