JOLIET, Ill. May 22 - Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher will come out of the seventh starting position in Sunday's NHRA Route 66 Nationals here at Route 66 Raceway. U.S. Army Pro Stock Bike riders, Angelle Savoie and Antron Brown, will start fifth and ninth, respectively. Top Fuel Like Friday, Schumacher lost one of his two qualifying sessions due to rain and, unfortunately, his only run was aborted because of tire shake. "While we didn't get down the track, others did, so we dropped down," said the 1999 Top Fuel world champion. "It's really too bad we could not come back for a second try today. But, that's the way it goes. We'll just have to accept where we ended up and go from there." Schumacher will meet 10th-place qualifier, T.J. Zizzo, in the opening round of eliminations beginning at 11 a.m. CT. Pro Stock Bikes Savoie was unable to better her Friday qualifying time of 7.202-seconds at 184.19 mph and dropped a spot in the order as a result. "We may have had some kind of a gear issue in both runs today," said the Louisiana native. "We do have plenty left in the bike, so we're optimistic about the race." Much like the first day of action, Brown once again chased a "gremlin" in his U.S. Army Suzuki in both of Saturday's qualifying passes and could not crack the top half of the field. "It's been a little frustrating to be honest," said Brown. "We'll find the problem and be ready for tomorrow." Savoie will take on 12th-place qualifier, Chip Hunter, in the first round of eliminations, while Brown will square off with 8th-place qualifier, Steve Johnson.
