Larry Dixon drove his Miller Lite dragster to the No. 13 qualifying position Friday at Route 66 Raceway after powering to a spectacular wheelstand on his opening effort of the weekend. The two-time defending NHRA Top Fuel champion?s Miller Lite rail launched hard and lifted the front tires off the ground, forcing Dixon to shut off and coast to a pass of 7.574 seconds at 97.06 mph to claim the No. 13 qualifying spot before Friday?s second session was canceled due to rain. ?When that happens, you just let common sense take over and lift (off the throttle),? Dixon said. ?I really don?t know how far the car got off the ground, but you can tell how far you can keep on the throttle.? Dixon, a 35-time NHRA winner, looks to move into the top half of the Top Fuel order when professional qualifying resumes with sessions scheduled for 1 and 4 p.m. (CT) on Saturday afternoon at Route 66 Raceway, where Dixon won the spring event in 2002. ESPN2 will broadcast two hours of qualifying highlights from the CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals at 4 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, Oct. 2 and show two hours of final eliminations coverage at 8 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Oct. 3.
