This Week at the Track

Hey race fans! Don't miss one second of the action at Route 66 Raceway this week as the state-of-the-art facility hosts three exciting events. Along with the Tuesday Test & Tune, Route 66 Raceway's 1/4-mile drag strip will host the first Jr. Dragster event of the 2006 season, followed by the first of four A-Reliable Tournament of Destruction Team Demolition Derbies at the 1/2-mile dirt oval on Saturday, May 27.

The weather is beautiful for today's Test & Tune! Gates open at 4 p.m. Admission to the event is $15; children 12 and under are free. Participants can purchase run cards for $25 per Test & Tune.

Test & Tunes are open time trials and testing opportunities for individuals looking to fine tune their drag racing skills, and are open to any class of vehicle, as long as it passes NHRA technical inspection set forth in the 2006 NHRA Rulebook. This is a day for the die hard drag racer to come out and play at Route 66 Raceway. During these events, there are no eliminations, no purses and no prizes or awards. The NHRA Jr. Dragster's invade Route 66 Raceway's 1/4-mile drag strip on Saturday, May 27. Gates open at 9 a.m. Admission to this event is free.

NHRA Jr. Dragster provides drivers from the Midwest the opportunity to compete at Route 66 Raceway for savings bonds, trophies and a chance to participate in the Eastern Conference Finals for an opportunity to win college scholarships. Drivers must be registered members of the NHRA Junior Dragster Racing League (JDRL).

Fans will be treated to another exciting event later in the evening as the A-Reliable Tournament of Destruction Team Demolition Derby takes to the dirt oval. Gates open at 5 p.m., with the event scheduled to begin at 7:15 p.m. Tickets purchased in advance are $16 for adults and $11 for juniors (12 & under). Tickets purchased on the day of the event are $20 for adults and $15 for juniors.

Team demo style racing is fast and catastrophic, with 50 mph head-on collisions, heavy side swipes and cars totaled in just one hit. Team demo always has eight teams. Each team has four cars, squaring off two teams at a time, in a round-robin until there's a winner. To win the evening's event, the team must win three rounds.
