AMA Twins Series Scheduled to Race Saturday at Route 66 Raceway

Just as the fireworks have stopped flying through the air in celebration of the 4th of July holiday, the Screamin' Eagle Wrecking Crew AMA Flat Track team will be headed back to Joliet, Ill., in hopes of making sparks of their own.

Kenny Coolbeth - the Screamin' Eagle Harley-Davidson factory rider - has already won a race this AMA Ford Quality Checkered Flat Track Twins season (Springfield, Ill.). The defending AMA GNC champion is second in the point standings, just five points away from points leader Jared Mees.

Mees, Wrecking Crew rider of the Blue Springs Harley-Davidson, has won two consecutive races and has been the points leader since June 7 - a career first.

The second half of the Wrecking Crew - Pat Moroney's H-D rider Bryan Smith and Team Latus H-D rider Joe Kopp - have been competitive in each of the AMA Twins' first three events of the season and are in fourth and eighth place, respectively and are looking to break out for a victory any day now.

As far as Coolbeth is concerned, Saturday's race in Joliet - rescheduled from a June 23 date because of rain - couldn't come soon enough.

"If I had my way we would be racing twice a week," Coolbeth said. "I like the races stacked up because it keeps you in a nice, competitive rhythm and keeps you sharp."

Coolbeth is especially anxious to get back to Route 66 Raceway. The dirt track is in the midst of the state-of-the-art drag strip and speedway and is hosting an AMA event for the first time since 2005.

"The facility is great and it's a racers paradise," Coolbeth said. "The weather forecast looks like it's going to clear up for us by Saturday, so hopefully we can run because the track looks great. It's a great atmosphere to race in and I'm just happy Route 66 Raceway is back on our schedule."
