Racers and fans throughout the Midwest voted Route 66 Raceway the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Track of the Year for the fifth time since 1998 at the 41st annual North Central Division Award Banquet in Indianapolis this past weekend. The year-end award banquet was held at the Sheraton Indianapolis Hotel and Suites on Saturday, Jan. 5.

"To be the recipient of this award came as a shock to us this year because all of the tracks in the North Central Division were equally deserving of this award," said Chris McMahan, Operations Manager at Route 66 Raceway. "It makes us feel proud as a drag strip that both racers and fans appreciate us enough to vote, and the entire staff at Route 66 Raceway will continue to improve the expectations that have been set forth."

Tracks eligible for this award must have held either a POWERade Drag Racing Series national event or an NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series North Central Division event. This year, racers and fans chose between six drag strips throughout the Midwest, including finalists Route 66 Raceway, Beech Bend Raceway Park and Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park. Route 66 Raceway was also a recipient of this award in 1998 (the tracks first year of existence), 2000, 2004 and 2005.

In addition to Track of the Year honors, Chicagoland Speedway and Route 66 Raceway public relations assistant Chelsea Dalton was named National DRAGSTER Contributor of the Year for her outstanding performance in race-news reporting throughout the 2007 season.

The 2007 Division 3 NHRA Summit Racing Series, NHRA Dart Top Sportsman Racing Series, NHRA Jeg's Super Quick Series and NHRA O'Reilly Auto Parts Jr. Drag Racing League champions, along with a number of other special award winners, were also honored at the banquet.

This season, Route 66 Raceway will once again feature the 11th annual Torco Racing Fuels Route 66 NHRA Nationals on June 5-8. The weekend - which marks the 11th consecutive year NHRA has visited the drag strip - will feature Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Bike series and the Jeg's All-Star race. Route 66 Raceway will also be the site for another NHRA Lucas Oil Series Division 3 race on June 13-15, along with a variety of events, including Bracket Racing, Test & Tunes, Jr. Dragsters and much more.
