CAR COUNT HIGH AS ROUTE 66 OPENS 2009 SEASON

JOLIET, Ill. - The gates opened on the 2009 season this past Saturday at Route 66 Raceway with the first Test & Tune of the year.

The car count was 286, eclipsing the 2008 season high by more than 100 vehicles for the first event of the weekend, before Sunday's Rockett Brand Race Fuel E.T. Bracket Series race presented by Gas City was rained out.

Despite the weather Sunday, Route 66 Raceway's staff is optimistic and anticipating the rest of the year.

"Many believe tough economic conditions will lead people to stay near their homes for vacations and entertainment options this season," said John Knechtges, Route 66 Raceway Supervisor. "We hope this holds true for us as well. We've always had a strong racing community in the Chicagoland area and draw racers from surrounding states as well, and we're ready and able to provide them the best and safest facility to compete at in the area."

"Route 66 Raceway would like to thank the racers; all 286 of you, for an outstanding kick off to the 2009 season this past Saturday," Knechtges continued. "The weather was good, the turn out was great, the racing was even better."

Test & Tunes are open to any vehicle as long as it passes a technical inspection, based on National Hot Rod Association rules.

Action continues at Route 66 Raceway this Saturday with the next Rockett Brand Race Fuel E.T. Bracket Series event presented by Gas City on the schedule. Local racers who compete in a series of E.T. Bracket races earn points in the hopes of representing Route 66 Raceway at the series finals held at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis later in the year.
