JOLIET, Ill. - John Knechtges, Route 66 Raceway Supervisor, received the 2009 Signature Award from the National Mustang Racing Association (NMRA) for his outstanding sportsmanship and contributions on behalf of the track and Series this season.

Knechtges, a seven-year employee of Route 66 Raceway/Chicagoland Speedway, accepted his award during the NMRA banquet on Friday evening of the PRI Show at the Orlando Convention Center.

“I would like to thank Charlie Harmon of NMRA and all of the staff at Route 66 Raceway,“ Knechtges said. “When I left minor league baseball to come to Route 66 Raceway, I knew I could never win a championship ring. To me, this is my first championship ring.

“We look forward to continuing our relationship with NMRA and building the tradition of Ford vs. the World at the Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing at Route 66.“

Route 66 Raceway was the only track recognized with this award, given yearly to drivers, media and sponsors involved with the series.
