Top Sportsman Series Returns to Route 66 Raceway
Four Race Series Will Include Route 66 Classic, NHRA National Dragster Challenge
Route 66 Raceway’s fastest ET Bracket category, Top Sportsman, returns to Route 66 Raceway for four dates, including the NHRA National Dragster Challenge (July 7) and Route 66 Classic (August 18).
The Top Sportsman Series will begin on Saturday, May 12, in conjunction with a Saturday Test & Tune. Top Sportsman racing then returns on Saturday, June 2 with another Saturday Test & Tune. June 2 will offer racers one last opportunity to race in preparation for the June 8-10, NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event with special inclusion in the marquee event, the Burndown at Sundown! on Saturday night, June 9. Top Sportsman racers will again be featured in the bonus “Fast Four” race, where the four quickest qualifiers match up in the final round of qualifying for a heads-up race. The finalists then return as part of the Burndown at Sundown! finale.
In conjunction with the Rockett Brand Racing Fuel ET Bracket Series, Top Sportsman will then be contested on Saturday, July 7 in the special NHRA National Dragster Challenge where the winner will be awarded a coveted pewter Wally. Top Sportsman racers who do not qualify in the sixteen-car field may use their entry to compete in Super Pro but will not be refunded any entry fee.
The fourth and final race of the season will feature Top Sportsman in the Route 66 Classic on Saturday, August 18. The Route 66 Classic is Route 66 Raceway’s new nostalgia match racing event that will feature the likes of Nostalgia Funny Cars, Nostalgia Pro Stock, Gassers and much more.
With a special emphasis on performance, only the quickest sixteen qualifiers will be eligible to compete in eliminations at the Route 66 Raceway contested events. Racers who advance beyond the second round will collect a $150 payout. The race winner after four rounds of competition will collect a $1,000 payout while the runner-up will collect $400. Entry fee to compete is $100.
