Route 66 Raceway Announces Winner of Diesel Event Naming Contest
“Downright Diesels” is a new, all-diesel event at Route 66 Raceway on August 4
Joliet, Ill. – May 24, 2012 – This spring, race fans entered a contest to name Route 66 Raceway’s new all-diesel drag race for a chance to win VIP access to the event. After sorting through hundreds of entries, Chris Angela was crowned the winner. His entry, “Downright Diesels”, will be the event title for the inaugural race on August 4 at Route 66 Raceway.
“As a lifetime race fan, this is just a dream come true,” said Angela, of Plainfield, Ill. “I feel like a million bucks, I’m just unbelievably honored and excited. I can’t wait to bring my wife out with me to an event that I actually named!”
As the winner, Angela will be named Honorary Grand Marshal, watch the event from the presidential suite and receive an all-access tour of Route 66 Raceway.
“Downright Diesels” will be held on Saturday, August 4, and feature everything from the world’s fastest diesel dragster reaching speeds of over 200 MPH to diesel pickup trucks – if it has a diesel engine it has a home at this race. The event will also be open to racers of all experience levels, from beginners taking Fun Runs to Top Diesel Professionals.
“I first want to congratulate Chris on winning this contest, because it was extremely competitive. We had so many great entries, but “Downright Diesels” stood out to us as the perfect choice,” said Scott Paddock, Route 66 Raceway president. “This new all-diesel event is yet another exciting opportunity we are adding to a dynamic array of events for our fans to experience at Route 66 Raceway this season.”
