Race YOUR ride down the same track as the stars of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series on Friday, August 2! A Test & Tune is your opportunity to safely see how fast you can race down the dragstrip. Whether you're a first-time driver in your street legal vehicle or a seasoned veteran getting your dragster dialed-in for serious competition - a Test & Tune is fun for racers of all experience levels.
Cars and motorcycles must pass NHRA Technical Inspection to participate.

Race eight in “The Road to Indy” will be on Saturday, August 10. The Rockett Brand Racing Fuel ET Brackett Series offers drag racing competition to drag racers of all experience levels in classes that mirror those of the NHRA Summit Racing Series. Racers will compete over a nine race series to crown a champion and determine who represents Team Route 66 Raceway at the Summit NHRA ET Finals in Indianapolis at season’s end. Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, High School and Pro Bike classes are contested.
Tomorrow’s stars are cutting their teeth today in the NHRA Junior Drag Racing League. For over twenty-years, the next breed of drag racers have developed their talents in half-scale dragsters that race the 1/8-mile dragstrip (half the distance of the ¼-mile dragstrip). This is a high-octane version of youth sports that will be run in conjunction with the Rockett Brand Racing Fuel ET Bracket Series on Saturday, August 10.
LAST WEEKEND: NHRA King of the Track Results
JOLIET, Ill. – Aug. 3, 2013 – John Coyle’s 13-year quest to win a Wally has finally paid off. Coyle’s second race win of the season came at an opportune time at the annual NHRA Summit Racing King of the Track at Route 66 Raceway. Coyle won a combined total of 9-rounds of eliminations en route to winning a coveted Wally – the first of his career.
Before winning King of the Track, Coyle had to outlast the rest of the Pro ET field. Coyle’s final round competition was against his fellow hometown racer, Herman Zehnder from Tinley Park, Ill. The classic Ford versus Chevy matchup was decided at the starting line as Coyle used a .011 reaction time in his ’99 Camaro and ran 9.558 at 138.43 mph to Zehnder’s 10.270 at 130.02 mph. Coyle’s win propelled him to the points lead over second-place Zehnder with only two races remaining in the 2013 Rockett Brand Racing Fuel ET Bracket Series.
In a class heavily populated by dragsters, the full-bodied door cars reigned supreme in Super Pro. Jim Taylor of Morris, Ill. drove his ’72 Vega to the race win over John Braasch’s ’85 Camaro. Taylor ran 9.288 at 143.52 mph while Braasch ran 8.911 at 152.09 mph. Taylor’s .007 reaction time and nearly dead-on 9.28 dial-in made for a run that was only .015 of a second from perfect. Taylor and Braasch’s final round performances placed them both in the top ten in points, currently eighth and ninth, respectively.
Pro Bike regulars had their hands full defending the predominantly two-wheel category from the influx of snow mobiles in competition. Ultimately, Mike Bostic would wheel his ’06 Kawasaki to the race win over the ’98 Suzuki of Tom Florey. Bostic, of Valparaiso, Ind., ran 9.192 at 139.01 mph while Florey ran 9.112 at 144.09 mph. Bostic would go on to eliminate Jim Taylor’s Super Pro entry in the opening round of the King of the Track and advance to the final around against eventual champion, John Coyle.
The Lyons family enjoyed another double-up weekend at Route 66 Raceway, as Tony Lyons won Sportsman while son David took top honors in High School. The father-son duo now top the point standings in their respective categories.
Tony Lyons faced stiff competition in the Sportsman final against the ’72 Chevelle of two-time track champion, Paul O’Keefe. Lyons’ ’89 Ford ran 12.103 at 107.52 mph to O’Keefe’s 12.494 at 105.92 mph.
David Lyons extended his High School points lead with his final round win over Michael Quick. Lyons’ ’92 Ranger ran 15.571 at 81.91 mph against Quick’s ’10 Chevrolet that ran 16.033 at 86.81 mph.
