Take Your Classic Car Down the Drag Strip, or Display in the Cruise-in Car Corral

Joliet, Ill. – August 5, 2015 – Route 66 Raceway and D’Arcy Buick GMC Joliet today announced the 5th annual Route 66 Classic will now be named the D’Arcy Buick GMC Route 66 Classic to be run on Saturday, August 15 paying homage to early drag racing and hot rod culture.

“The D’Arcy Buick GMC Route 66 Classic celebrates and honors a sport steeped in tradition,” said Scott Paddock, Route 66 Raceway president. “We look forward to a night of fun, cool cars and old-school drag racing.”

Fans are invited to take their classic car down the drag strip with a time trial run card for just $25. Fans can also participate by showing their classic car (model year 1979 and older) for free in the Cruise-in Car Corral preferred parking area. Route 66 Raceway’s youngest fans are invited to stop by the Kids Club to participate in the Official Classic Treasure Hunt. Exhibition drivers will be signing autographs from their trailers so be sure to stop by for a hero card.

“We are excited about our new partnership with the Route 66 Raceway,” said Terry D’Arcy, D’Arcy Buick-GMC owner.  “It’s certain to be a full day of fun for all in attendance.”

Gates for the D’Arcy Buick GMC Route 66 Classic will open at 9 a.m., with on track activity beginning at 11 a.m. In addition to the Kids Club area for racing’s youngest fans, 97.1 The Drive will be spinning tunes from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Nostalgia match racing will provide racing action all day, along with the Midwest Top Sportsman, Run Tuff Eliminator and Test & Tune. Fans can also participate in the Run Tuff Eliminator, open to ’79 or older door cars with no electronics.  Only the top 16 cars closest to their dial-in in qualifying will compete in this nostalgia match-up. Motry’s fuel altered will compete against Lawson’s funny car in a quarter-mile blast down memory lane.
