Joliet, Ill. (April 12, 2017) — In preparation for this this year’s NHRA Route 66 Nationals, representatives from Route 66 Raceway visited Joliet Fire Department Station 1 and the Joliet Police Department Main Station to present the city’s first responders with tickets and gift baskets.

“I think it’s a great example that the NHRA is setting,” said Joliet Mayor Bob O’Dekirk on the first responder event. “I think all of us owe a debt of gratitude to our first responders, and I thank the NHRA for what they’re doing for our police, fire and all first responders here in Joliet.

“With the nature of the job, you never know what’s coming when you go to work. The NHRA is taking the time to recognize these guys for the hard work they do, and for the sacrifices they make. They sometimes go unrecognized, so I’m happy the NHRA and Route 66 Raceway are taking the time to recognize them for what they do.”

The gesture kicked off Route 66 Raceway’s partnership with the NHRA Salutes First Responders platform. In the coming weeks, first responders will be given the opportunity to purchase tickets to the Route 66 NHRA Nationals with a 20 percent discount. The discount is extended to all service men and women who are designated or trained to respond to an emergency and hold a current ID in their line of work.

“On behalf of the men and women of the Joliet Police Department, I can say we appreciate the fact that the NHRA and Route 66 Raceway are recognizing us and the partnership that we have. Law enforcement – and public safety as a whole – across the region, we have a really close relationship and highlighting it through initiatives like this are truly appreciated,” said Joliet Police Chief Brian Benton.

In addition to the ticket offer, first responders will be honored and recognized for their dedication to the community throughout the NHRA Route 66 Nationals weekend July 6-9.

“I’d just like to thank the NHRA and Route 66 Raceway for recognizing the first responders in our community,” said Deputy Chief Gregory Blaskey. “Normally we’re the ones reaching out and helping others, and for someone to give back to us is unusual but much appreciated. We thank them.”
