Joliet, Ill. — May 16, 2017 — On Saturday, June 3, Route 66 Raceway will play host to the Four Seasons Heating, Air Conditioning and Plumbing Burndown at Sundown! As the sun goes down the night will light up as jet-propelled, fire-breathing cars rocketing to speeds approaching 300 miles per hour will take the track. Burndown at Sundown! is just one evening of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series exhibition where over 500 cars will spring into action during three full days of racing.

New in 2017

The Burndown at Sundown! is turning up the heat in 2017 with some fiery additions. First off, fans can experience a midway filled with fire-themed food and drinks including an official XXX Hot Sauce tasting challenge courtesy of Jake Melnick’s. Jake Melnick’s was voted “Top Chicken Wing Spot in the US” by the Today Show. A special Fire Truck Touch-A-Truck display will line the midway as well.

Be sure to beat the summer heat at the beer garden and rock out with our live entertainment provided by The Bishop’s Daredevil Stunt Club! Cap off the evening with a firework show, fire eater performance and feel the flames shooting from the exhibition show. It’s a night that will surely bring fire to life!

And for the kids, Route 66 Raceway Kids Club Members will be given VIP access including an up-close viewing area with access to the staging area, a hauler tour and an exclusive driver autograph session. Not a Kids Club Member yet? No problem! Visit the Route 66 Raceway Fan Pit Stop to register children 12 years of age and younger. Those who sign-up on Saturday, June 3 will have the same exclusive opportunities offered throughout the day.

Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series

The Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series (LODRS) is the premier Sportsman racing program in motorsports: It is where the future stars of NHRA Drag Racing develop their skills. The three-day event at Route 66 Raceway is expected to showcase upwards of 500 vehicles from 10 classes including: Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman. Racers compete across the nation in 46 divisional and 26 regional events. With hundreds of cars in 10 different classes, LODRS truly has something for everyone.

As a part of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Top Alcohol Dragsters and Top Alcohol Funny Cars will be on display. Top Alcohol Dragsters use supercharged, nitro-burning engines, supercharged methanol-burning engine or an injected nitromethane combination that can reach speeds of 285 mph. The injected nitro cars do not use a transmission, and the supercharged cars have three forward speeds that launch them down the quarter-mile in 5.1 seconds.

Exhibition Content

A spectacle of fire and explosion will begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 3 as exhilarating planes, trains and automobiles enter the World’s Premier Drag Racing Facility. Show content includes the world’s wildest locomotives KC Jones’s Chattanooga Choo-Choo Jet Car and Crazy Train Wheelstander, Barry Richter's Hypersonic jet funny car propelled by a fire-breathing jet engine, Scott Holdridge’s Fifty Cal Jet Dragster and Dave Modder’s Dragon’s Fyre; a 1940 Ford pick-up truck powered by a General Electric J-85 after-burning turbo jet engine. The Dragon's Fyre Jet Truck is the only one of its kind.

Similar in physical appearance to their nitro-burning Funny Car counterparts, Top Alcohol Funny Cars are restricted to the use of methanol fuel and have a three-speed transmission that allow for the vehicles to reach speeds of 270 mph. Top Alcohol Funny Cars are capable of completing a quarter mile in 5.3 seconds.

Saturday’s spectacle of fire and explosion will begin at 5 p.m. although racing will take place throughout the entire day. Tickets for the Four Seasons Heating, Air Conditioning and Plumbing Burndown at Sundown! are only $20, while kids 12 and younger are admitted for $5.
