Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series

The Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series (LODRS) is the premier Sportsman racing program in motorsports: It is where the future stars of NHRA Drag Racing develop their skills. The three-day event at Route 66 Raceway is expected to showcase upwards of 500 vehicles from 10 classes including: Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman. Racers compete across the nation in 46 divisional and 26 regional events. With hundreds of cars in 10 different classes, LODRS truly has something for everyone.

As a part of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Top Alcohol Dragsters and Top Alcohol Funny Cars will be on display. Top Alcohol Dragsters use supercharged, nitro-burning engines, supercharged methanol-burning engine or an injected nitromethane combination that can reach speeds of 285 mph. The injected nitro cars do not use a transmission, and the supercharged cars have three forward speeds that launch them down the quarter-mile in 5.1 seconds.

Exhibition Content

A spectacle of fire and explosion will begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 3 as exhilarating planes, trains and automobiles enter the World’s Premier Drag Racing Facility. Show content includes the world’s wildest locomotives KC Jones’s Chattanooga Choo-Choo Jet Car and Crazy Train Wheelstander, Barry Richter's Hypersonic jet funny car propelled by a fire-breathing jet engine, Scott Holdridge’s Fifty Cal Jet Dragster and Dave Modder’s Dragon’s Fyre; a 1940 Ford pick-up truck powered by a General Electric J-85 after-burning turbo jet engine. The Dragon's Fyre Jet Truck is the only one of its kind.

Similar in physical appearance to their nitro-burning Funny Car counterparts, Top Alcohol Funny Cars are restricted to the use of methanol fuel and have a three-speed transmission that allow for the vehicles to reach speeds of 270 mph. Top Alcohol Funny Cars are capable of completing a quarter mile in 5.3 seconds.

Saturday’s spectacle of fire and explosion will begin at 5 p.m. although racing will take place throughout the entire day. Tickets for the Four Seasons Heating, Air Conditioning and Plumbing Burndown at Sundown! are only $20, while kids 12 and younger are admitted for $5.
