NHRA Route 66 Nationals Spring Back to May 31-June 3 in 2018

Cooler temperatures equal faster speeds at the 21st Annual Route 66 Nationals

Joliet, Ill. (June 7, 2017) — Route 66 Raceway announced today that the 20th Anniversary season pf  NHRA Route 66 Nationals will take place May 31-June 3, 2018, where four class championships will be up for grabs at the only true stadium of drag racing in the world under the favorable atmospheric conditions that have historically set records.

With every ticket serving as a pit pass, fans will receive unparalleled access to the stars of the NHRA drivers and teams as they prepare to make history.

“Historically, racing conditions during this time frame are optimal for track and national records to fall,” said Route 66 Raceway President Scott Paddock. “Matched with the strong will and desire of these modern-day gladiators to perform at their best, Mother Nature could pump more oxygen into the air and light the night on fire. Set the backdrop of a full-on sensory overload experience on the track, fans can witness firsthand the surgical-like craftsmanship of the mechanics finely tuning these 10,000-horsepower behemoth race cars.”

A look back to Record-Breaking 2004

During the 2004 NHRA Route 66 Nationals in late May, Brandon Bernstein established the Top Fuel national record for speed at 333.41 mph by running within the required 1 percent mandated by NHRA. Following this performance, Doug Kalitta etched his name in the books with an E.T. of 4.420 making the quickest Top Fuel Pass in NHRA History.

Whit Bazemore steered his Matco Tools Dodge Stratus R/T down the drag strip in 4.713 seconds at 333.25 mph, establishing a national record for time and recording the fastest Funny Car pass in NHRA history.

Pro Stock Motorcycle’s Andrew Hines raced his Harley-Davidson down the drag strip in a track record time of 7.093 seconds, erasing the previous record of 7.103 set by Angelle Savoie in June 2001.

The full line-up of Route 66 Raceway events for the 2018 season is being worked on and will be announced in the future.
